HW and SW requirements, phone settings
Besides
usual standards the MRP
Video-Server requires the following conditions to be fulfilled when
using the MMS service.
Hardware requirements
To send MMS messages
The requirements differ according to the Internet access:
- The PC MRP Video-Server has a fixed Internet access:
A mobile phone controlled with the AT commands is connected to the
PC´s serial port (tested mobile phones are: Siemens MC35i Terminal,
Nokia 7110, Nokia 6210, Nokia 6310i,
Siemens C55,…).
- The PC MRP Video-Server is connected to the Internet via the GPRS
Internet connection (not via the fixed line):
A mobile phone capable of GPRS data transmissions and controlled with
the AT commands is connected to the PC´s serial port (tested mobile
phones: Siemens MC35i Terminal, Nokia
6310i).
To receive MMS messages
A mobile phone supporting the MMS and WAP services is essential. Since the
image resolution of the mobile phone´s display is lower than the image
resolution of snapshots we advise you to buy a phone which is capable to
zoom images. The mobile phone that is not able to zoom images does not
allow you to display details of snapshots you have received.
Our experience with single mobile phones when receiving MMS messages:
- Nokia 6230i – is recommended, a quality display, allows to
zoom images
- Nokia 6600 – is recommended, a quality display, allows to
zoom images
- Nokia 3650 – is recommended, a quality display, allows to
zoom images
- Nokia 7650 – is recommended, a quality display, allows to
zoom images
- SonyEricsson T610 – a quality display, does not allow to zoom images.
- Nokia 6610 – less quality display, does not allow to zoom images
The Nokia mobile phones with the Symbian operating system are generally
recommended. They have a quality display and are capable to zoom images at
the same time.

Mobile phone settings to receive MMS from the MRP Video-Server
For the MMS download from the Internet you can use both the WAP service
via GPRS and WAP via the GSM data. First make sure that the function
settings of the WAP service have been activated in your mobile phone. Then
you can establish connection to the home page of your service provider to
check the function settings activation.
Further on, it is necessary to set the MMS settings for your mobile
phone to download MMS messages via the WAP service. You can enter the WAP
access point in the MMS settings (e.g. Nokia 7650, Nokia 3650) or,
eventually, to create and set a new set in the same way as with the WAP
service (e.g. Nokia 6610).
Select Messages – Options (Settings) – Multimedia message – Primary
Access to activate the WAP access point (e.g. with Nokia 3650 and Nokia
7650).
Important: Your mobile phone will probably try to use its
updated settings to receive both MMS messages from the MRP Video-Server
and to receive ordinary MMS messages (picture weather forecasts, photos,
etc.). Maybe you will not be able to download usual MMS messages or you
will be charged by your operator for downloading MMS messages (even
unsuccessful) in compliance with the applicable price list for WAP via the
GSM data or WAP via GPRS, etc.)! Therefore, if you are a less experienced
GSM mobile phone user and have the MMS service activated with your
operator we advise you to deactivate the service (more experienced users
will take all advantages of their mobile phones and send multimedia
messages of all types and personalise profiles to their own liking). It is
not always necessary to activate the MMS service with some of the mobile
operators to transmit MMS messages from the MRP Video-Server to your
mobile phone. Not being operators specific the MMS transmission service
may be operated via the GSM networks of the operators who do not support
the service at all! An optimum settings of your mobile phone will allow
you to take advantage of the roaming services and receive MMS messages
from the MRP Video-Server abroad – be aware of higher charges for the MMS
transmission!
